Generative AI is changing entry-level tech hiring, and coding skills alone are no longer enough. That was the message from Dr. Praphul Chandra, Dean Research and Director, ACAD at Atria University, in a recent News18 feature on how engineering preferences are shifting ahead of JEE Main 2027.
The numbers behind the shift (per News18): India's AI sector is expected to generate over 23 lakh job openings by 2027, against an estimated talent pool of around 12 lakh.
What Dr. Praphul Chandra, says tomorrow's graduates will need:
Building with AI: Skills like agentic AI, harness engineering and context engineering will be in demand.
Deploying AI: Graduates who understand architecture and can help deploy AI safely in enterprise systems will be valuable.
Specialising in AI: The most valuable graduates will be those who can build and fine-tune custom AI models for a specific domain or customer.
"With AI becoming the new CPU to 'programme', the ability to build digital solutions using AI models will see an increasing demand." – Dr. Praphul Chandra
He also stressed that universities must adapt their curricula quickly to prepare students for these evolving roles.
