    Atria University is hiring for full-time faculty to teach courses in information systems for the first-year program, with a particular ability to draw connections between first-year fundamental courses and the 5 interdisciplinary majors. We seek applicants with a strong grounding in technology, an appreciation for real-world applications in engineering and applied sciences, and hands-on learning.

    The contract will be for 3-5 years, starting no later than May 2021, for the 2021-2022 academic year. To apply for the faculty position, please download and fill the application form and email it to facultyhiring@atria.edu along with your CV.

    We are seeking faculty to teach courses in basic programming for the foundational year program. These courses will involve teaching the following topics in an activity-driven or project based manner –

    Basic topics

    Algorithmic thinking, understanding data on spreadsheets, linear regression, ways of interactively visualizing concepts/systems from other courses (such as classical mechanics, calculus, probability).

    Advanced topics

    The idea of data structures, efficiency in data structures and algorithms, an introduction to Python as a programming language.

    Further courses in year 2 onwards can go into more details about data structures and algorithms, and courses related to the interdisciplinary majors at AU. Faculty also have the opportunity to devise interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary course offerings combining learning goals from other fields.

    We seek applicants with a strong grounding in technology, an appreciation for real-world applications in engineering and applied sciences, and hands-on learning.

    Work Expectations

    Faculty members are expected to be engaged as follows

    • 70% time in teaching and student mentoring
    • 20% time in research/consulting
    • 10% time in service commitments to the University

     

    Each course has faculty expectations of the equivalent of 10 to 15 teaching hours per week, with plenty of room for students to engage in self-directed and open-ended work. Additional contact hours may be spent on mentoring students or assisting guest faculty to facilitate courses.

    Faculty will play an active role as mentors for student projects. All full-time faculty serve as advisers. We expect our faculty to participate in building growing our University. There will be opportunities to serve in administrative and senior positions with appropriate course release or other compensation.

    When not teaching, you will have the opportunity to work on your own research, consult for the industry, or work on one of the many projects at Atria Business Innovation Center (ABiC). ABiC is an incubation center for exciting new businesses.

    Qualification & Experience

    Required

    • Masters or equivalent postgraduate degree
    • Capacity/experience for working with unconventional pedagogies
    • Undergraduate level teaching and/or mentoring experience
    • Collaborative teaching/research
    • Desire to conduct active research/consulting/performance in addition to teaching in your chosen field

    Desired

    • Interdisciplinary teaching/learning
    • Curriculum development and design experience
    • Student-centered learning
    • Experience in integrative learning environments
    • Experience in leading learning programs
    • Ph.D. or the equivalent highest degree in your relevant fields

    Compensation
