Centers of Excellence
Driving innovation, research, and real-world impact across multiple domains through interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge facilities.

Leading Research & Innovation
The "Living Lab" for India
Atria University's Centres of Excellence (CoEs) are not conventional academic departments. They are mission-driven research hubs designed to solve India's most critical challenges — in energy, life sciences, AI, eMobility, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
Each CoE operates as a living laboratory: integrating real infrastructure, real data, and real-world deployment into every research project. Students work alongside faculty, industry practitioners, and government bodies on problems that matter.
Our model is built on three pillars — applied research with deployment intent, industry-academia co-creation, and AI-enabled learning that prepares students for the future of work.
The "Living Lab" for India
A Pivotal Moment
India stands at a crossroads — rapid urbanisation, energy transition, biodiversity loss, and digital transformation are converging simultaneously. Our CoEs exist to respond to these challenges with rigorous, interdisciplinary research.
The Future Demands a New Model
Traditional siloed research cannot address systemic challenges. ACAD integrates AI, life sciences, energy, and eMobility in a convergent research model that mirrors how the real world actually works.
Buildings as Nodes
Every building on campus is instrumented as a research node — generating live data on energy consumption, air quality, water usage, and human movement. This transforms the campus itself into a research dataset.
Labs as Bio-Foundries
Our life sciences and energy labs are equipped as bio-foundries and materials synthesis facilities, enabling students and researchers to move from hypothesis to prototype within the same institution.
Landscape as Testbed
The campus landscape — including constructed wetlands, solar installations, and biodiversity corridors — serves as a living testbed for environmental research, eDNA sampling, and ecosystem monitoring.
AI-Powered Convergence
All research streams are unified by AI and data infrastructure: sensor networks, satellite imagery, LLMs, and blockchain-based verification systems that enable transparent, scalable research outcomes.
Our Singular Mission
To produce researchers, engineers, founders, and policymakers who can design, build, and deploy solutions at the intersection of technology and sustainability — for India and for the world.
Impact-Driven Work Advancing the UN SDGs
Aligning research and innovation with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Atria University's Centres of Excellence directly advance India's national missions while strongly aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our work spans a wide SDG spectrum — from Clean Energy (SDG 7), Climate Action (SDG 13), Sustainable Cities (SDG 11), Water Security (SDG 6), and Life on Land (SDG 15) to Zero Hunger & Food Security (SDG 2), and Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG 12).
As an academic institution, we also uphold Quality Education (SDG 4) by integrating research, innovation, and AI-enabled learning into every programme, building the next generation of scientists, engineers, founders, and policymakers.
Across our ecosystem, AU advances Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure (SDG 9) through work in smart grids, synthetic biology, digital public infrastructure, battery engineering, eMobility, IoT, and decentralized systems. Our research model, rooted in collaboration with government bodies, national missions, and global institutions, also strengthens Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
Together, these SDGs form the backbone of AU's mission: engineering a sustainable, circular, and climate-resilient future for India and the world.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Our Centers
Six interdisciplinary Centres of Excellence driving India's sustainable future
Pillar 1: Living Systems Research
Leveraging biology, ecology, and AI to monitor, model, and restore living systems — from cellular to ecosystem scale.
SynBioAI
Combining synthetic biology with AI to engineer biological systems for applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental remediation.
EcoFertility
Developing AI-driven soil health monitoring and precision fertilisation systems to improve agricultural yields while reducing environmental impact.
Hyperlocal Weather
Building high-resolution weather prediction models using IoT sensor networks and satellite data to support precision agriculture and disaster preparedness.
Pillar 2: Energy & eMobility Systems
Engineering the energy transition through research in storage, smart grids, clean mobility, and sustainable infrastructure.
Agentic Campus Microgrid
Designing and deploying an AI-managed campus microgrid that integrates solar, battery storage, and demand response to achieve net-zero energy operation.
ECD+ (Electrochemical Desalination)
Developing electrochemical desalination technologies that simultaneously treat water and recover energy, addressing water security in coastal and arid regions.
Sodium Batteries
Researching sodium-ion battery chemistries as a sustainable, low-cost alternative to lithium-ion for grid storage and eMobility applications.
The Atria Living Laboratory
CoEs are not just academic units — they are impact accelerators. The campus is our first deployment environment.
Applied research conducted on live campus infrastructure — buildings, wetlands, microgrids, and mobility systems are all active research subjects.
Joint development with industry partners who co-fund, co-design, and co-deploy research outcomes within real operational environments.
Technology translation pathways from lab prototype to pilot deployment, with dedicated IP support and startup incubation facilities.
Innovation pathways for students: from coursework to research project to startup, with mentorship at every stage from faculty and industry advisors.
Field testbeds beyond campus: partnerships with panchayats, state government bodies, and national missions for real-world deployment of research outcomes.
Training ecosystems for industry professionals through executive education programmes, workshops, and immersive lab experiences.
AI-enhanced educational tools embedded in every programme — from simulation environments to LLM-powered research assistants — preparing students for the AI-native workplace.
What Makes Us Different
National Convergence Hub for AI + Science
We are not just an "AI University" or a "Biotech University." We are the hub where these fields converge. We are the answer to the question, "Where does AI meet deep science to solve real-world problems?"
Living Laboratory" Deployer
While others publish, we deploy. Our campus-as-a-testbed approach makes us the preferred partner for government and industry to validate and scale new technologies, from smart grids to bio-fertilizers.
National Mission Accelerator
Our projects are not academic exercises; they are direct accelerators for India's most critical missions—Atmanirbhar Bharat, the National Bioeconomy (BioE3) Mission, the Smart Cities Mission, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Premier Talent Pipeline
We are not training just "data scientists" or "biologists." We are training the next generation of AI-Native Scientists and Engineers—the "Fifth Paradigm" workforce who are fluent in both their core domain and in AI, ready to lead India's sustainable future.
