    Programme Overview

    Climate change is driving a global transition towards renewable and energy efficient sources. The Energy Sciences major at Atria University will train and prepare you to contribute meaningfully to this crucial transition. The training and skills provided will cover all critical areas in the energy industries of the future and develop the leaders of this emerging field.

    This major is meticulously designed to address specific challenges associated with energy systems, energy storage, energy data analytics, energy policy, and energy management. The programme begins by establishing a robust foundation in the fundamental principles of energy sciences. Subsequently, it provides a comprehensive overview of technological applications within the renewable energy industry. Drawing upon disciplines such as electrical engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering, as well as basic principles of physics and chemistry, the courses focus on renewable energy systems.

    You will engage in projects that involve observing, studying, and designing installations for renewable power plants. This will include hands-on experience in performance testing and analysing energy installations, ensuring that your knowledge is directly applicable to real-world scenarios. These projects will incorporate concepts from energy science and engineering, energy policy, public engagement, and business entrepreneurship, all relevant to clean energy systems.

    By the end of the program, you will emerge as an individual capable of comprehending and addressing complex issues in the energy sector. You will possess the expertise to tackle the challenges of energy systems, formulate sustainable energy policies, engage with the public, and drive business entrepreneurship in the context of clean energy systems.

     

     

    Degrees Offered

    The Energy Sciences major offers coursework towards any of our four degrees.

    BTech

    for the engineer who will design, build, and operate renewable energy systems.

    BSc

    for the scientist who wishes to study and pursue research in cutting-edge energy systems.

    BBA

    for the entrepreneur who will invest and promote renewable energy and services.

    BDes

    for the designer of renewable energy plants, and energy-efficient utilities for buildings.

    Learning Outcomes

    The major aims to provide training in the various skills and technologies in the Energy Sciences space.

    Renewable & Sustainable Energy Systems

    Understand renewable energy systems, including their design, operation, and integration. Gain expertise in various renewable energy sources and technologies, such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, to contribute to sustainable energy solutions. Incorporate sustainability into energy systems by working on the feasibility, design and performance analysis of energy systems using softwares and through developing the prototype. 

    Energy Storage Technologies

    Acquire knowledge and skills in energy storage technologies, including batteries, fuel cells, and other emerging storage solutions. Learn to analyse and optimise energy storage systems to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and resilience of renewable energy systems.

    Energy Data Analytics

    Develop expertise in energy data analytics, leveraging advanced tools and techniques to extract valuable insights from energy-related data. Acquire skills in data analysis, modelling, and visualisation to optimise energy systems, identify energy-saving opportunities, and support informed decision-making in the field of energy sciences.

    Climate Change and Mitigation

    Understand the initiatives taken at international and national level to combat against climate change, identify the environmental impacts due to climate change and mitigation strategies.

    Energy Systems Design, Operations and Maintenance

    Learn about the design and operations of energy systems using simulation models and conduct the energy audit of energy systems using industry grade energy audit instruments.

    Renewable Energy Utilisation

    Develop the key skills required in the energy sector by exploring the use, operation and management of renewable energy in industrial, commercial and domestic buildings. 

    Power Systems

    Gain an understanding of electrical power systems, their design, operations and control and conduct the performance analysis of power systems. 

    Entrepreneurship in the Energy Sector

    Develop the business models for various renewable energy systems and learn the skills required to be an entrepreneur  in the energy sector.

    Energy Policy and Environmental Regulation

    Gain a comprehensive understanding of energy policy and environmental regulation frameworks. Explore the social, economic, and environmental implications of energy systems and policies. Develop the ability to navigate and contribute to energy policy discussions and implement sustainable practices that align with environmental regulations.

    Project and Financial Management

    Create the financial models of various energy systems using various financial techniques and understand the project management strategies used for the energy systems.

    • Illuminating Progress: Designing a utility-scale solar PV plant.
    • Harnessing Solar Heat: Building a prototype for a solar thermal power unit.
    • Wind-driven Innovation: Creating a blueprint for a wind farm.
    • Power Performance Analysis: Investigating the performance of a utility-scale solar PV plant on site.
    • Testing Solar Brilliance: Producing electricity and testing the operation of a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant on site.
    • Wind Energy Unleashed: Producing electricity and testing the operation of a wind farm on site.
    • Solar-Powered Communities: Running a social intervention to power houses with solar energy.
    • Human-Induced Climate Change Research: Researching human-induced climate change and methods of mitigation.
    • Electric Energy Efficiency Amplified: Conduct the energy audit of electrical systems and prepare the investment grade detailed project report.
    • Thermal Energy Audit: Conduct the energy audit of thermal systems and prepare the investment grade detailed project report.
    • Empowering Education: Designing, installing and commissioning a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system for an under-resourced school.

Innovations in the design of solar photovoltaics and batteries, improvements in grid design, and growing public awareness of the consequences of climate change have made renewables indispensable.
