    Programme Overview

    Globally climate change is driving a major transition towards renewable and efficient energy sources. However, using renewable sources has its own challenges. The Energy Sciences major at Atria University will train and prepare you to contribute meaningfully to this crucial transition. The training and skills provided will cover all critical areas in the energy industries of the future and develop the leaders of this emerging field.

    This major is designed to create individuals who can understand and tackle specific problems associated with renewable energy technologies, energy storage, energy data analytics, energy policy, and environmental regulation. The program first provides a strong foundation in the principles of energy sciences, followed by a broad overview of technology applications in the renewable energy industry. The courses in this major will draw on concepts from electrical, electronics and mechanical engineering, basic physics and chemistry, with a focus on renewable energy systems. Projects may include observing, studying and designing renewable power plant installations, performance testing, and analysing energy installations for real-world applications. They will draw on concepts from energy science and engineering, energy policy, public engagement, and business entrepreneurship relevant to clean energy systems.

     

    Focus Areas

    Students who take the Energy Sciences major will specialize in one of the following fields in their fourth year:

    • Renewable Energy Systems 
    • Energy Storage 
    • Energy Data Analytics 
    • Energy Policy and Environmental Regulation

    Please Note :BDes and BBA (PGD) students will initially study general concepts in areas of Design or Business Administration,

    Because the wind blows during stormy conditions when the sun does not shine and the sun often shines on calm days with little wind, combining wind and solar can go a long way toward meeting demand, especially when geothermal provides a steady base and hydroelectric can be called on to fill in the gaps.

    Signature Projects

    The Energy Sciences major will offer the opportunity to work on exciting projects such as:

    Designing, installing and commissioning a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system for an under-resourced school.

    Researching human-induced climate change and methods of mitigation.

    Conducting a techno-economic survey of all renewable energy systems.

    Designing a utility-scale solar PV plant.

    Building a prototype for a solar thermal power unit.

    Creating a blueprint for a wind farm.

    Investigating the performance of a utility-scale solar PV plant on site.

    Producing electricity and testing the operation of a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant on site.

    Producing electricity and testing the operation of a wind farm on site.

    Running a social intervention to power houses with solar energy.

    Please Note: The projects listed above are tentative and may change to meet emerging developments in the field.

    BTech

    for the engineer who will design, build, and operate renewable energy systems.

    BSc

    for the scientist who wishes to study and pursue research in cutting-edge energy systems.

    BBA

    for the entrepreneur who will invest and promote renewable energy and services.

    BDes

    for the designer of renewable energy plants, and energy-efficient utilities for buildings.

    • Underlying technologies of renewable energy and their applications in science and manufacturing.
    • Renewable energy generation at different scales – from rooftops to commercial power plants.
    • Basics of electrical engineering for renewable energy.

    Visionary major

    Renewable energy is slated to account from 20% currently to 55% of power generation in India by 2030. At Atria University, through interdisciplinary learning, you’ll be trained to impact the energy sector in ways beyond just engineering. And you will be prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.

     

    The increased generation and usage of electricity have powered innovation and the growth of human civilization in the last century. At the same time, the resultant greenhouse gas emissions have caused the climate crisis we face today. A sustainable future demands that we shift to renewable energy systems.  

     

    We’ve taken some bold steps in designing the Energy Sciences major. To move entirely away from fossil fuels, and focus on renewable energy. Innovations in the design of solar photovoltaics and batteries, improvements in grid design, and growing public awareness of the consequences of climate change have made renewables indispensable. Socially, economically, and environmentally – they are the most viable option for our future.
